About me

Growing up as the son of two artists, my mom a still life painter and my dad a landscape painter, I believe that I was given a sense of aesthetics and intuition in the natural world. Whether in the realm of neurological differences or environmental factors, I never felt that this sense applied to the sphere of human society and culture. In other words, the natural world with it's abiotic and biotic elements seemed to feel more comfortable and perceptually navigable than the anxiety provoking social matrix of the human species. Taking this aesthetic sense combined with an intuitive comfort in natural places, I believe that nature photography has been a fitting pursuit in my life. I began taking photographs with intention as a middle schooler with support and inspiration from my parents, quickly gravitating toward long exposure techniques. Since then, I have been refining my craft in a variety of environments across the world, from the Namib desert of southern Africa to the Caucasus mountains of Asia. As I have evolved on a individual level, so has my photographic style. As my philosophic horizons have expanded, my photographs now take on more personal meaning.

My philosophy

Any one extraordinary photograph is likely to elicit a broad diversity of thoughts, emotions, and cognitive shifts among its viewers. Although the contents of this visual induction are tangible, they do not retain the same form from person to person, for the value of art results from the interaction between an individuals beliefs and experiences, and the art piece itself. In simpler terms: art is subjective. With the foregoing concept in mind, I do not pretend to have the ability to produce specific types of impressions on people via my photography, for I can only hope that my work will cede some sort of grander a priori meaning. Ultimately, my lofty hope is that my photography will, if even for a moment, force the viewer to shed the veil of anthropocentrism that so ubiquitously paints their reality. To put it in another way I hope to destabilize our most common disposition; that is seeing value in nature only in relation to human endeavors. By highlighting the beauty and intricacies of the natural world via unique lighting and composition, my photography will perhaps force the viewer to contemplate the intrinsic value of natural places and their inhabitants.
